Can I send clothes to Cuba?
Yes. You can send clothes, shoes and accessories for your family in reasonable amounts for family use: everyday clothes, school uniforms and backpacks, underwear, sleepwear, shoes, sneakers, flip-flops, caps and purses.
Clothes can go in the same box as other household items, such as sheets, towels, toys or tools. What must go separately is food, toiletries and medicine, and also appliances, which go in their own durable goods package.
A separate box for food, toiletries and medicine
Food, toiletries and medicines (medical supplies too) always travel in their own package: they can share that box, but are never mixed with the rest of your things.
If you want to send soap or shampoo along with the clothes, pack two boxes: one with the clothes and shoes and another with only the toiletries. How to pack clothes so more fits
Clothes take up more space than they weigh, so space is what counts. A few tricks:
- Roll clothes instead of folding them: they take less space and wrinkle less.
- Use vacuum bags for coats, sheets and towels.
- Stuff shoes with socks or underwear and put them in bags so they do not dirty everything else.
- Sort clothes by person in bags labeled with each name: that way nobody argues when the box is opened.
- Put shoes and heavy items at the bottom and clothes on top.
- Seal the box with wide tape on every side and weigh it at home before creating the shipment.
Tips for choosing clothes and shoes
Ask your family for their sizes before you buy, especially for shoes: a photo of the foot on a sheet of paper next to a ruler helps a lot. For children, buy one size up, because they grow fast.
Think about the weather: Cuba is hot almost all year, so light cotton clothes, shorts, flip-flops and sneakers go further than winter clothes. A light jacket is enough for cool January nights.

The price is $5.00 per package plus $2.00 per pound. A 20-pound box of clothes costs $45.00 and a 35-pound one, $75.00. Each package weighs 10 to 100 pounds and its contents can be worth up to $800.
